Jennie Williams is the second daughter and middle child of Laurie and Joshua Williams.
When she was in the third grade, Jennie really wanted to bring her pet hamster with her to visit her grandmother in New York City.
When she demanded an explanation for their firm veto of this idea, Jennie’s parents encouraged her to empathize with the rodent: “We understand that you think he would make the plane ride more fun, but how do you think Nibbles would feel cooped up in your pocket for two hours?”
Jennie has enjoyed writing about being the child of two psychologists ever since. Her first and only book, Everyone Knows That Hamsters Can’t Fly, won a gold medal in a statewide contest. Jennie thus remembers the third grade as her artistic prime.
Jennie graduated with Highest Honors from the University of Virginia in 2012. She currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland, where she is pursuing a PhD in history at Johns Hopkins University.
